Father John Rallis
Protopresbyter
Fr. John Rallis was born in Athens, Greece, on November 30, 1957, the second of two children to Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Rallis. After receiving a diploma is Shipping Studies in Athens, he traveled to England and Wales, where he studied Port and Shipping Administration, and graduated in 1980 with an equivalent Bachelor of Science degree.
Fr. John met (Presvytera) Irene Kerasote whilst they were both studying in England, and they were married in New York City in September 1980. For two and a half years they lived in Athens, while Fr. John fulfilled his military obligations in the Greek Navy, and Presvytera taught English as a foreign language. In 1983, they returned to the USA and settled in New York, where Fr. John worked as an accountant for maritime shipping companies for three years.
During that time, Fr. John became aware of his “call” to enlist as a servant of the Lord as a priest. In 1986, he enrolled as Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline, MA, received his Masters of Divinity, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1989. Fr. John’s first assignment was to the parish of St. George in Asbury Park, NJ, and he served the community for six and a half years.
The Rallis family currently lives in the Chicagoland area, where Fr. John has served at St. John the Baptist since 1996. Fr. John and Presvytera Irene have three daughters: Elpida, who is married to Anthony Platis, Nikolia, and Katerina.
Father Alexander Lukashonok
Father Alexander was born in Evanston, IL, the youngest of three to Archpriest Cyril and Matushka Alexandra Lukashonok. His father, serving as the first priest of a new mission in the Northwest suburbs, Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, here baptized him into the Holy Orthodox Church. After moving to the East coast to serve parishes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the family returned to the Illinois to serve the Archangel Michael Orthodox Church in Burbank, IL. It is here that Father Alexander spent his teenage years, learning to know God, serving in the altar, reading in the kliros and singing in the choir.
As a young adult, Father Alexander became the psalti at St. George Russian Orthodox Church, Chicago, IL, living on the premises, participating in the parish and teaching in the Sunday school. In 1998, he left for Europe and entered the Moscow Theological Seminary, Sergiev Posad, Russia, where he completed his first year of seminary. After the year of study, he returned to Chicago, becoming a member of Holy Trinity Cathedral and living in Ukrainian Village. He entered the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and continued to travel abroad, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, and Belarus. In 1999, he raised funds and spent the summer in Russia’s Southern-most region, the Caucuses, helping a small village to rebuild their church. In 2001, Fr Alexander was married to Oksana Pavlova Hykava at Holy Trinity Cathedral, a native of Ternopol, Ukraine. In 2002, he completed his studies with a BA in Russian Literature and Slavic Studies.
In 2003, Fr Alexander enrolled in St. Vladimir Orthodox Theological Seminary receiving a Master of Divinity in 2005, with a dissertation completed on the New-martyrs of Russia and a translation of an Akathistos to St. Amphilokhios of Shumsk. In May 2004, he was ordained a deacon, and January 30, 2005, was ordained to the priesthood by His Grace, +Tikhon, Bishop of Philadelphia, at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, Wayne, NJ. A parish where he had completed his field study under his mentor Father Paul Kucynda, and which requested his ordination to take place at the church.
Presvytera Oksana has supported her husband’s ministry both spiritually and financially, working while they lived at seminary, and the first years as a newly ordained priest. She then finished her undergraduate degree at Northeastern University in Human Resources. Presently, she has completed an additional degree in Ultrasound Sonography. Presvytera also enjoys volunteering, spending time with orphans from Russia, translating and caring for them as they travel to prospective families in the U.S.
Since 2005, Fr Alexander has spent practically his entire pastorate serving parishes in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, most recently serving at Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Glenview, IL. |
